Carbon Management programme launch Carbon Management programme launch
A new programme designed to challenge energy use across the Service is due to be launched this summer. The programme will manage and identify potential savings in the Service's energy bill, which is currently the second largest in the UK public sector. This major piece of work was launched on 26 June, with an action workshop planned for the summer. Further workshops, following in September, will examine the various opportunities that exist to tackle the issues, with delivery plans being developed after that.
Changes in Chaplaincy Changes in Chaplaincy
Step back seven years and you'd find a chaplaincy that was almost exclusively Christian. Today, it's different. Chaplaincy, says Chaplain General William Noblett, is made up of “a significant number of faith traditions working together for the common good of prisoners, staff and faith communities.”
Building a bigger estate Building a bigger estate
The Capacity Expansion programme is one of the biggest building programmes being undertaken by government. In fact, it's one of the biggest building programmes in Europe, probably beaten only by the Crossrail and Olympic developments in Britain. And by the time the Olympics kick off in 2012, the Prison Service will have more than ten thousand extra places – 10,226 to be precise – against the total at the start of 2008.
