This page contains details of the regime at Springhill.
Spring Hill prison works in partnership with Thames Valley Probation and the voluntary and community sector to deliver a high quality regime and services to prisoners.
Springhill regime offers a wide range of employment, education and offending behaviour groups. There are two vocational learning centres. PICTA, training prisoners in computing skills, from a basic short course in CLAIT, through the EDL to CISCO and the Trowels Trades centre where prisoners are able to gain skills and qualifications in bricklaying. Most work placements offer vocational learning opportunities, for example both the Kitchens and the Farms and Gardens offer training from Key Skills to NVQ’s. The education department has strong links with local colleges offering opportunities for prisoners to attend college on a full or part time basis.
A key part of the regime is the working out scheme, which enables prisoners to work in the local community, first on a voluntary basis and if successful, later in a paid capacity to experience and prepare themselves for employment on release.
Healthcare
The healthcare team have adopted the corporate idiom "Health Matters" and advocates self-care as part of preparation for release/resettlement.
Springhill unit is Type 1, an outpatient facility resourced by staff from Grendon. Contracted GPs’ provide three surgeries a week. Treatments are issued twice daily. Springhill Prisoners have full access to clinic facilities provided at Grendon. Mental health services are provided in house with support from Bucks Health in reach services.
Drug Strategy
All prisoners are given an assessment on their initial reception. Identification will also come from the prisoner’s OASys sentence planning documentation and security measures including mandatory drug testing.
Support and advice is provided through CARATs (Counselling, Assessment, Referral, Advice, Throughcare). This is supported by a voluntary testing programme, which is based on individual prisoner needs determined by individual and frequent assessment.
