HMP Hewell Grange was successful at the International Green Apple Environment Awards 2007, winning the Education and Training category.
The awards, which recognise environmental best practice around the world, are organised by The Green Organisation and supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Municipal Journal, and several other professional bodies.
Phil Childs (Waste and recycling manager) and Darryl Jones (Training and Development) collected the award at the ceremony held at the Houses of Parliament.
The award was in recognition of the performance of the prison's waste management unit and the associated prisoner training initiatives. The prison recycles 64% of the waste generated on-site and 38 prisoners successfully achieved accredited training standards.
